Hmmm. Mighty strange. Other people don't seem to be having that problem.
And you're unable to browse for the location of the "CD" so that you can
navigate back to the location of the installation files where you have
them?

I can browse but it keeps insisting on cd drive Z, so I burned it to a
cdr, changed the drive letter to Z but still could not install it.
I've given up. No idea what causes the problem.

Sorry I can't help you more, I haven't had the time to try the program
out yet.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett or Doc (who uses sock puppets)
for instance. No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware,
demoware, nagware, PROmotionware, shareware, spyware, time-limited
software, trialware, viruses or warez for me, please.

Finereader is a payware OCR that works great. I bought my first FR 4.0
as bookware for the equivalent of 10$ ten (?) years ago and upgraded
later to today's version 8. In part due to the upgrading it's less
expensive than other OCRs. I use it often to get data out of tables
published in publications where I can not allow for sloppy work.

Sorry, a digression from the pure part line.

But a good program is a good one

El Bandelero,
Many thanks for posting this. As Dave pointed out further down in the
thread, English can be specified during the installation.

If anybody else is interested in downloading this program, be sure to
translate the page in a tab next to the actual page. That way, you can
click on the links on the actual page and know what they're talking
about. You'll need to do this because clicking on the links in the
translated page doesn't work and you need to obtain the registration
code by clicking on the "questa pagina" link in the line that says:

"- registrarsi presso questa pagina specificando un indirizzo e-mail
valido. In questo modo, nel giro di pochi minuti, si riceverà il numero
di licenza personale che consentirà di sbloccare l'installazione di
FineReader 4.0;"

about 1/4 of the way down the page.

You should read my reply to Dave further down this thread too.

Thanks again, El Bandolero!

========================

My experience just now when I tried to access their web page is that
that seem to be a very difficult company to do business with. Their
page wouldn't answer to the selections that I clicked on. The page
would redisplay the same thing that appeared before I selected
items. I couldn't find any prices. They appear to be well hidden.

The smart thing to do is to forget them.
