I can't speak for Win 7 since I don't run it - I can deal with a pile of patches.
It's kind of like a new install where you've got sixty or more to run !

C'est la vie. Better patched then not, eh ...

Not a bad idea at all, Robin...I did (bought a MAC) last August and it's the
best by far!

do you need to add any antispyware or antispyware programs on it? I read
that even macs can be insecure at times
I wish I could find a cheap one so I could play around with it but they are
so darn expensive

I may be kidding myself, but I have not installed any of that stuff on my
iMac -- runs like a dream....once had a website trying to take over my
machine but the browser instantly closed down and reopened without incident.
No residual problems.

Yes, they are expensive, but worth every penny IMHO. When my XP machines
finally croak, no more PCs for my office -- I maintain 5 machines here, all
XP Pros, and always have to jump through hoops to keep those spyware/virus
monsters at bay! It is getting really old, as I am sure you know!

Try an iPhone and you'll be totally hooked!

that ar ein here and would like to hear from them.
btw I installed it on my windows 7 (all 15 of them) with no problems
I also just put it on 2 xp pro machines too with no problems

Somehow I doubt that especially now the MS News is on the Web.
