O.T. MCShield

I have a Dell XPS 8500, with Windows 7
Professional, SP1, with Spywareblaster,
SuperAntiSpware, malwarebytes, Avast,
Malwarebtyes Anti-Exploit, Unchecky,
MCshield, Windows Defender and
Windows firewall.

(1) TB HD
Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-33-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.40 GHz
Ram 12.0 GB
System type : 64-bit operating system

Unchecky, Malwarebtyes Anti-exploit and
MCShield are recent installs recommended
to me from malwarebytes forum when my
computer was infected and the person helping
me provided the links.

It seems malwarebytes Anti-exploit runs on
its own but recently I had a pop-up for an
upgrade. Since this is how I was infected I
was very leery of clicking on it and so I
closed it. I checked the program I had for any
update features and there were none other than
downloading the entire program.

Unchecky also seems to run on its own and
doesn't have any update features either that I
could see.

When I attempted to open MCShield Real
Time Monitor it gave me this:

Then when I opened MCShield Control Center
it was in German

oqm04z.jpg

and this is the website

My question is this: should I try and download
from this site a new version of MCShield hopefully
in English?

Thanks,
Robert

It turns out, McShield was written by your helper,
the TwinHeadEagle :) I don't see running this
as a priority, as you had previously mentioned you
don't typically pass USB flash sticks from one
computer to another. The purpose of McShield
is to stop malware from spreading via USB flash sticks.
And that is a real exposure, as malware such as
Sality, spreads by all means possible, including
the ability to infect USB sticks. So while a lot of
things would not abuse your USB key (like the adware and
toolbars you get), there are some real bad malwares
that spread by network, USB key, virtually any means possible.

http://malwaretips.com/threads/mcshield-anti-malware-v3-0.15076/

In that thread, you can see the tool getting changes in
April 2013, so it's a relatively new program.

The release notes mention "translations", so it is
supposed to support more than one language. Usually,
your machine has some declarations of localization,
and that you're an English speaker. And installed
programs should be able to check that and get the
installation language done correctly. If there
are any error messages which are not hooked into
the localization stuff, then it would be possible
to see the messages in the developer's native language.
On some older installers (I was using some a couple days
ago), the language choice appears early in the
installation process, in a pull down menu, and
so you'd better get the language choice set
correctly before continuing.

The installer should be multi-lingual, with language
files included so the language gets set correctly
at install-time.

OK, I downloaded the file from mcshield.net and opened
the .EXE file with 7-ZIP.

Languages\
DE.ing [German]
EN.ing [English]
ES.ing [Spanish]
...
ZH.ing [Chinese?]

There is support for a total of 19 languages in there.
So either the installer window will have a language
selector, or the installer will consult the language
setting of the machine to determine which one to install.

Hello Paul,

I believe I did select the EN.ing option
when installing but apparently it didn't
take.

You are correct, I normally don't use USB
flash sticks from one computer to another
but there are occasions when I have done
so.

So should I re-install this or leave as is
or uninstall it?

Thanks,
Robert

Have you tried the language setting control ?

The setting is under "General", the second entry
down on the sidebar.

I would have if if I knew where it was but
as I say it was all in German. In any
case, I applied it and now all is fine.

Thanks,
Robert
