O/E and keyboard

I have the following problems:-
1) Cannot get £ and ? signs to work, they print a
peculiar T and A - (keyboard is set to Eng UK)
2) I used to be able to hold down any key and it would
repeat until I released it, this no longer works
Can anyone help please?

Hunch: dead keyboard. To isolate the problem, try swapping keyboard
with another computer.
