Hi all, Has anyone tried these new drivers in XP? Did you uninstall the old
drivers first? Cheers. Please address any replies to the news group. My
email address is false.

Hi all
Many thanks for the reply. I asked the question about uninstalling the old
drivers because of the following:
From the NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager User's Guide for 45.23: (An 8 MB
download and worth getting)
Uninstalling the NVIDIA Display Driver Software

Note: It is highly recommended that you follow the steps in this section to
completely uninstall the NVIDIA Display Driver software before updating to a
new version of the software.

To uninstall the nView software, follow these steps:

1 From the Windows desktop, click Start > Settings > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs.

2 Click the "NVIDIA Display Drivers" choice from the list that appears.

3 Click Change/Remove.

4 Click Yes to continue.

5 A prompt appears asking whether you want to delete all of the saved nView

Desktop Manager profiles.

Note: If you click Yes, the nView software and all of your saved profiles
will be deleted. If you click No, the nView software is removed, but the
profile files are saved in the Windows\nView directory on your hard disk.
Your system now restarts. -- Please address any replies to the news group.

Bert, would appreciate it very much if you could further expand beyond item
5. When you remove the current NVIDIA drivers and reboot, what happens
then? Does windows ask if you want to install new video drivers or does
windows just install some basic video drivers during bootup and then you
install the new NVIDIA drivers?? Thanks for any help, Sam.

It will come up in a basic VGA mode, and you run the new install from
that. I have only found that necessary if, for some reason, I wanted
to install an *earlier* version driver (properly clean, without a 'roll
back') and did not have a convenient restore point to go back with

I've found it necessary on a couple of occasions, usually when making a
'large' upgrade (from 3x series to 4x series drivers for instance),
however now I do it routinely, since sorting out the mess made by a
failed upgrade is a real PITA.
