Nvidia crap... Q3 won't play again!

No changes made to the system... Now Q3 shuts down just as my single player
game is starting.

I had the same issue last week when I originally upgraded from an ATI Radeon
9600pro card to my eVGA 6600GT, but was able to play Q3 after uninstalling,
deleting any leftovers and reinstalling Q3.

Damn... I really wish ATI had a reasonably priced upgrade from a 9600Pro....

Hardware:
- Asus P4C800E-Dlx mainboard
- 2.6Ghz P4 Northwood CPU @ 2.8Ghz
- 1.5Gig of DDR memory
- 2x256meg DDR533 OCZ
- 2x512meg DDR433 Kingston HyperX
-eVGA NVidia 6600GT AGP graphics card (just introduced a week ago and
started these issues)
- 2 PATA and 1 SATA IDE HDD
- AOpen dual layer DVD burner
- OS is Windows XP SP2, all security updates as of today

Last bit of my Q3 log...

I'm glad uninstalling and reinstalling worked for ya! :)

So the game just exits back to the desktop? You are SURE nothing else got
installed since it worked last? It looks like it's shutting down right as
it loads everything:
...loaded 4806 faces, 46 meshes, 43 trisurfs, 128 flares
----- CL_Shutdown -----
RE_Shutdown( 1 )

I would need to tinker with that script to find out what would cause that
shutdown routine. Maybe someone else is more GL knowledgeable....

Why? You're randomly assuming it's an "nVidia" problem,
when others have their nVidia cards running fine. Seems it
could as likely be a windows issue or ATI driver remnants.

Did you run DXDIAG to see if it flags anything or passes the
built-in tests? Did you use the Q3 menus to change video
setings or redetect them? Did you try refreshing a new copy
of the Q3 config file to replace the old one that may have
information only applicable to the old card?

Did you check any game forums for FAQ on the game?
Voltage readings to confirm your system is suitable for more
power hungry card? Checked bios settings to see if they're
set ok?

I'd back up any saved games if applicable, use an ATI driver
cleaner, use an nVidia driver cleaner, reinstall DirectX9c,
reinstall nVidia Detonator (latest version), check on
patches for Q3, install patch if found and if none of above
works, uninstall/reinstall Q3.

Does the system successfully run benchmarks like 3Dmark?
Does it run the windows 3D screensavers which use OGL? At
least, I thought some of the screensavers did but I don't
recall which ones.
