nVidia card not working properly

Before I realized that my issues with Windows XP was that it didn't like my
second 2GB pack (corsair 2x1GB memory: XMS2 DHX CM2x1024-6400C4DHX) giving
me 4 GB, I did a "repair". Now it will not properly install the drivers
for my nVidia 7600 GTOC card. it sees the card and identifies it properly,
the installer goes through the proper motions, but once rebooted, I cannot
adjust the display through the control panel (just shows the theme options)
nor will the nVidia display panel. I have tried the drivers that are on the
CD that came with the card, downloaded the latest from nVidia and the
drivers downloaded via Windows Update. Any ideas???

Thanks.

There's a tool, called Detonator Destroyers, which completely
uninstalls drivers including any .inf files etc. Use that to completely
uninstall the drivers then reinstall them from the latest driver
download from nVidia.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I did download a product called Driver Sweeper
which seems to have worked, though I still had to remove some stuff by
hand.

Did you reinstall the driver for your monitor? Without that, you will not
be able to access options for your video card. -Dave

I had not. The odd thing now is when I reboot, it seems to be unable to
load the drivers, so the screen is at the right size and refresh rate,
but everything is slow. If I use Driver Sweeper to remove everything
and then reboot, it sees the card and loads a driver from somewhere.
The res is low, but it steps me through the install and I'm able to
select my size and refresh rate. At this point it does see the proper
monitor as well. I have the nVidia control panel in the system tray and
all is fine until I reboot.
