Numerical fields mysteriously adding together

after working with Access 97 for years,i finally switched to 2000.i'm having
a problem when i set up a new table with numerical fields (for example: a
table with 10 fields - first field is =1 or is null; 2nd field =2 or is null
- and on and on thru 10) - when i actually enter the data - for instance - 1
in field 1, 2 in field 2 - THEN a 3 automatically pops into field 3 - i may
not want field 3 to be filled in - it doesn't matter if i enter with the tab
or enter key - the next field is automatically kicking in - this also happens
when i don't enter a validation rule. if i enter 4 in a field, then 2 in the
next field - automatically a 6 will pop up in the third field. I have NO
queries or macros - just simple tables with numerical fields.

Sorry to be so wordy - I really don't know what terminology to use to
describe this problem - and I'm no newbie with Access! Thanks for any help.

Hi Arvin,

There is one way that you can avoid this most annoying behavior; too bad the
KB article you cited does not mention this. To disable Autofill, create a
form that uses Datasheet as it's default view (this looks like a table).
Select the text boxes in question, and set the Autocorrect property from the
default Yes to No.
