numbers on keyboard don't work

the numeric part on the right hand side doesn't work at all. I have Windows XP Home. this happened with a MS kb and a compaq one both using PS2 and both working perfectly on other machines. I bought a keypad with usb connection. It doesn't work either. Using the numbers across the top of the letters part of the kb works but it is too slow for what I need to do on my computer. XP was preloaded so I don't have discs to reload it.

help!

You did not state if this was a recent problem or has that been a problem since
you first got the PC??? Try on-screen keyboard, and check if the keypad works
there: Start/All Programs/Accessories/Accessibility/On-screen keyboard.
If it does not work there, go to:
Start/Control Panel/System/hardware tab/Device Manager button
scroll down to keyboard, rightclick/Properties/ and click troubleshoot.
You may need to reinstall it. The driver files may be corrupt, or you can also
try a System Restore.

Almost sounds as if you are configured as a laptop instead of a desktop. Check
for any possible settings on keyboard in control panel. Check keyboard driver.
