number pad on keyboard

I have a new Dell computer and the number pad on the
right of the key board does not work. Any ideas on how to
make it start working?

This can be due to the "num-lock" button being set for cursor movements.
Just tap num-lock once, and it should change back to numbers. This button
gets hit by accident occasionally.
