Number of NICS for RRAS

To configure RRAS do I need 2 NIC cards, because when I
configured it using one NIC, and service started, I was
not able to even ping that server from my internal W.S.
Also, when configuring RRAS, I'm assigning static IPs vs
DHCP. do the IPs have to be on a diferent subnet than my
local LAN?

Thanks,

joe

Added info from Joe:

from VPN client outside to access an internal server at
10.1.1.5
the layout is: public IP --> Linksys router --->
10.1.1.254 to access 10.1.1.5.

You mean you got the answer?? Let me know what it was if you did... but I think the trick it when you run the RRAS setup wizard, do not select an Internet Interface.. where it shows your NIC or says No Internet, choose No Internet.

Barry, I did it with one NIC card. when running the
wizard. select "Manuall configured server". I found it
on one of the posts. What I did is I selected VPN(it will
disconnect from the rest of the network) I noted all the
settings. Then I deleted and selected "Manually
configured server" and set all the options manually. When
selecting VPN from the menu, the server sets it up as RRAS
server only( I take it MS comment would be "it is by
design"). I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

I know you can do it with one NIC because I have before,
but I can't remember the trick. I can't test right now
becasue I will knock users off of the box! Hopefully
someone will answer your psot or mine.

No you don't need 2 NICs. When you have 1 NIC you can configure RRAS by
choosing the custom configuration path in the wizard.

When you do this you have to fill up the information for static pool,
authenticaiton mechanisms explictly.

Check whether IP filters were plumbed on the physical interface. You can
check by going to RRAS console, general, right click on the interface
appearing on the right, properties,...
