Number of files on Flash Media

I just bought a digital picture frame and have a 2GB SD card to put pictures
on. The frame will not recognize folders so I just dumped the pictures on the
card. It would not allow more than 500 files. Is 500 the limit of files
allowed? Also, is there a way around that maximum file number. I have also
bought an 8GB Compact flash I was hoping to dump huge quantities of photo
files on. Please advise. Thanks! SJS

There is certainly a limit on many drives and yours looks like 512.
Read here: (a bit old and doesn't cover flash drives)

MS-DOS: Directory and Subdirectory Limitations

The solution is normally to use sub folders but that does not seem
possible for you.

You may be able to reformat it to NTFS though then your frame may not
recognize it. You may have it formatted to FAT and if so, try FAT32
