Nudge

Carey

Hi:

This is my first time here, and I hope I'm doing things
correctly. If possible, CCing my email address would
ensure that I see any replies.

I recently had a hard drive failure and lost all 37GB of
contents. My computer was repaired by a tech who
re-installed Office 2000, but Word now has at least one
difference that I'd like to correct/return to the way it
was, if possible.

Before the HD failure, I could "nudge" things -- Text boxes
or other Drawing objects -- in very small increments, in
order to position them exactly where I wanted. I could
also start -- position when starting to draw, for example
-- an item exactly where I wanted.

NOW:
* When I use nudge, it moves in large increments, making
exact positioning impossible and
* The drawing objects can't be placed/started wherever I
want -- such as in between lines of type -- but instead can
only be positioned one one spot or another, but not in
between those two spots.

For example, I was trying to use a wide line to overprint
and black out something on printed copies by running them
back thru. But I couldn't get the line to appear exactly
where I needed it -- it would only be positioned in
certain, exact specific places -- one of which was just
above where I needed it, and the other was just below --
but NOT in between.

Is there a way to change the increment in which "nudge" is
graduated -- to make it smaller, so that the selected item
barely moves -- so that you can really position it EXACTLY
where you want it?

Thanks!!!!!!

Carey

Hi Carey. If your Drawing toolbar is not visible, click on View |
Toolbars | Drawing. On the Drawing toolbar, click on Draw | Grid. In "Grid
settings", change the horizontal and vertical spacing to something smaller
(mine is 1/8" [displayed as 0.13"], but you can set the spacing to any
increment you want). Click on Default. When you close Word after this, you
may be prompted to save changes to your normal.dot template; if so, say yes.
