I have three computers, all running XP Professional. I am trying to network
them so they can be seen and shared by all. I have followed the network
connections wizard, created a network group but when I look at my networked
places I don't see any of the machines...what am I missing ???

John,

You're likely looking at a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or
other security component. There are several other possibilities too, and any
might be the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

The NetBT setting, if not consistent, could be part of the problem.

For more direct help, let's look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net
config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose
the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):

I can ping the computers successfully, but still can not "see" then to
network to.

Well, "seeing" the computers is generally a matter of passing NetBT packets back
and forth. This can be hampered by firewalls, or by an inconsistent NetBT
setup.

So I'll repeat my advice. Read the above articles, and read linked articles.
And ask questions. But try.

And finally, provide the diagnostics specified in the latter link.

get a D-link router and you should be ok. Run the main network cable into the
#1 slot and then connect the other PC's into the router. please reply if this
helped.
