ntoskrnl.exe missing home edition

I have the same problem some have had before. Windows XP won't start. Says ntoskrnl.exe is missing. Can't get keyboard support, when I load the restore CD , i can't chose restore because there is no keyboard support and I dont want towant wipe the hard disk ... i will if I have too, but I dont want to... the knowledge base articles don't help, how do i get the missing file restored if I can't use the keyboard. Anyone got a fix on a boot floppy
