My laptop got all messed up and i formatted the only hard sisk it has. I
used the setup disk fro the microsoft website to get the computer to the
point were it will try to install windows off of the CD rom. Part of the way
through i get the blue screen of death. Upon reboot I then get the NTLDR file
is missing fault. ive looked this up and copied the NTLDR file onto a disk
along with the boot.ini file. Now i am just plain stuck and dont know what
to do. Can any one help?

First off, it would be helpful to know what information is
displayed when you get the BSOD. At what stage of the
installation did it halt? The brand and model number of your
laptop might also come in handy.

The error message you saw (NTLDR is missing) is because your
laptop is trying to boot
from the hard drive. It can't because the Windows installation
didn't complete.

Why are you using the setup disks? If you can get your laptop to
boot from the CD then do it. It will make things a lot easier.
Check the documentation for your laptop to see how this is done.
Once you get XP installed you can change the settings back to
what they were.

During installation if XP has a problem installing a hardware
device it may reboot or halt. Windows makes a note of the problem
item and is supposed to skip over it
the next time you run the installation. Keep in mind that there
may be more than one problem device on your laptop, so you may
have to follow this procedure a number of times. In other words,
if the installation is interrupted at any stage before completion
then you're going to have to restart the installation. Windows
should
pick up where it left off. You've got to keep doing this until
your
installation is completed. If you try this procedure a couple of
times and it reboots or halts later in the installation process,
then you
know you're headed in the right direction. Once you get to a
point where you see a notice about the installation being
complete then you should be all set. Once you get XP up and
running you'll need to go into Device Manager and provide the
correct drivers for any items that haven't been properly
installed. If, on the other hand, the installation gets stuck at
the same spot then this procedure isn't going to help.

Note: During installation the only thing that should be connected
to your laptop is a power cable.
