NTLDR missing. Still won't go past this screen

Hi,
I recently asked for advice on this message:
NTLDR is missing
Press ctrl+alt+del to restart.

What I've done since is to take out the hard drive and put it as slave on my
other computer.
I then dumped a fresh copy of ntldr from my windows xp cd in the windows
folder on the hard drive.
This didn't help.
So then I created a boot disc and tried to boot from it. This didn't help
either.
I went to this site:
http://www.tinyempire.com/shortnotes/files/ntldr_missing.htm and downloaded
their software and went through all of their suggestions including dumping
the three files with different filenames in the Windows folder but nothing
worked. The first suggestion was the hal.dll was corrupt so I copied a new
hal.dll and put it in the system32 folder. Then I did the rest as they
suggest.
I tried to run a repair with the xp cd in the computer but it asks me for an
Administrator password, and I've never entered any such thing into this
computer.

Now I'm lost.

I can navigate the hard drive just fine in my other computer but once I
install it in the original computer it won't go past that black screen with
the above message.

Any suggestions?

Jay

When running the Repair Install when is it asking for an Administrator
password?

Before it does anything.
It basically goes to a black DOS looking screen and then asks for the
password right after I hit the R key.

Jay,

When the error is ntloader missing, XP is telling you that it does not know
where to look for the file. The file pointers for ntloader reside in the
MBR. If I remeber correctly you will need to go into the recovery console
and use the fixmbr command. But of course youhave to have the Admin PW for
this.

If you do not remember creating a password for the administrator account try
any password you have ever used on the system. Do you rememebr the first
password you used for the user you created when you installed XP, that is
most likely the pw for the Administrator account. if you did not build the
machine then call the person that built it and they probably set one. But, I
would try using a blank pw (Yes I have seen them), password, administrator,
admin, 1234, or combination there of. You would be surprised the simple
passwrods that a builder will forget to remove. Anyway, I hope this helps.
