This is probably a common problem, but I haven't been
able to resolve it.
I moved my hard drive loaded with XP Pro to a new
system. It worked fine on the old system, but I wanted
to upgrade to a faster processor.
I have tried the various fixes found on web postings such
as copying the NTLDR file + NTDETECT.com from the CD. I
have tried using the Recovery console to repair the
installation, I have tried running fixboot & fixmbr to no
avail.
I should probably mention that the new system contains a
Mitsumi Floppy/Card Reader combo drive, which adds a lot
of extra drives. I tried disconnecting the card reader
to see if that would make a difference...nope! Also, the
hard drive is a 160 gig Seagate using Seagate's disk
management utility so that I can utilize the full
capacity of the HD. BTW, XP was installed as an upgrade
to Windows Me.
With older versions of Windows, I would have simply
reinstalled the OS on top of the existing version.
However, I'm reluctant to try this with XP because of the
caution messages about dual OS when I start to install.
I have a lot of data on the disk that I don't want to
lose, so I am reluctant to wipe the disk and start from
scratch.
Any advice will be deeply appreciated!
