I am running my XP on NTFS,& am being asked by Norton
Antivirus to verify the 'short file naming convention is
disabled'. How do I do this? Help, please, thanks.

Here's steps to disable it. Just do the reverse;

Here's how to disable the 8.3 filename creation process:

Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\
Control\FileSystem.

Double-click the NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation value.

Type 1 in the Value Data text box, and click OK.

Close the Registry Editor, and restart the computer.

Note: Editing the registry is risky, so be sure you have a verified backup
before making any changes.

Keep your opinions to yourself. Just because you had a bad experience with
Norton does not mean it is a bad product. You don't even offer an
explanation as to why he should "get rid of Nortons" as you so eloquently
put it. BTW, you may not have been trying to be a smart ass, but you wound
up being one anyway.

No, but you certainly come across as a smart ass.

Nortons (POS) software is the most system intrusive waste of space ever
written.

No dumbass, Ive never installed it on my system, but Ive spent countless
hundreds of hours removing the crap.

You are simply another blinded fool who supports a product to the end no
matter how pointless it is.
