NTFS Version

Hi All,

This may be a stupid question, but what version of NTFS is shipped with
Windows XP Pro? A friend says version 6....I dont think thats right...I think
version 5 but maybe im wrong :)

It is Windows version 5.1 --- NTFS version 3.1 as of SP2

Microsoft upgraded NTFS to NTFS v5.1 for Windows XP.

Carey, I believe that is incorrect.
The version of the OS is 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600.
The version of NTFS with Windows XP SP2 is 3.1.


If you want to be sure...

Open a command prompt and type in:

fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo c:

(assuming c:\ is your system drive.)
You'll see the version there.

See what your's says. Mine says 3.1.
Open a command prompt (Start ... Run ... cmd) and type

fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo c:

Where you require this information on C: (etc)
