NTFS v. FAT32

How can I create a partition larger than 32GB
and still allow windows98 PCs to access the
disk?

I have an 80 GB hard drive on my new PC.
I formatted a 20 GB partition (FAT32) for
installation of Windows XP. (I have 2 other PCs
running win98 on a network.) The FAQ on MS website
says I must convert to NFTS in order to format
a partition greater than 32GB. It also says win98
PCs cannot access NFTS files.

Hi Doug,

This is not an issue at all when accessing files over a NETWORK. Different
file systems, partition sizes etc. have no bearing whatsoever.

hi Doug
When you're talking shared folders accessed over a
network, the filesystem doesn't matter. Your 98 PC will
be able to access a shared folder on your XP's NTFS drive,
no problems (well... assuming they are networked ok ;).
That's because the 98 PC is not actually accessing the
drive itself... it sends requests to the XP PC, which
works with the local drive, sends data back to the 98 PC
etc.
If you wanted to remove the NTFS drive and install it in
your 98 PC, then no, it wouldn't be able to read it.
cheers,
