I screwed up today... I wanted to use my USB 250gb external HDD on a
Win98 (NOT SE) Laptop. I downloaded and installed what i thought were
Win98 drivers. in the process, the disk somehow got changed to a
FAT32 format, BUT there is still folder and files on the disk. but
not accessible. The file/folder names are garbage/foreign symbols.

When i go to CP/Admin/Computer Management/Disk Management it says this
drive is 232.89GB FAT32 Healthy in the graphic area, but above in the
table area, it says it is 5.57GB capacity and 950mb Free Space. The
later is what it says when i right click and click Properties.

I suspect somehow the "drivers" which i installed on the W98 laptop
somehow reformatted the drive. I'm pretty sure it was formatted as an
NTFS drive. Lots of big files have been stored on it.

Is there any way to recover the data??? any tips for programs to use?

tia, ron
