NTFS to FAT32

O

OP

I need to get my Windows 2000 PC back to FAT32.

I tried to format the C: drive so I can do a clean
install of Windows 2000 and select the file system but I
get a message indicating the volume is still in use.

I get this message eventhough there are no applications
running (except Windows).

All files used by W2000 are on the C partition. You're
asking your PC to Cut its legs.

Boot on the W2000 cd and during installation you'll be
prompted for the partition to install W2000 on. You can
also delete create format partition at this time.

I think you need to boot to DOS, Run fdisk and start
again. re-run the OS setup and choose format to Fat32
instead of NTFS. If that option is not availabel Format it
with a 98 boot floppy first.

You 'can' convert the existing file system back to fat32
with utils like partition manager in dos, although the os
may not reboot once converted. You may as well start again
from scratch, or try it as a learning process! (suck it
and see)
