NTFS or FAT?

Hi all,
Looking at the details available on the file systems i have decided to go
for NTFS for the below metioned configuration:

Hardware: AMD Geode, 512 MB RAM, 512 MB CF.
OS Size: Around 250 MB.

I remember reading somewhere that microsoft suggests FAT system for XPe on
CF. Is that right? why, if so?

Can somone tell me the best way to choose between these two file systems?

Bill,
if you don't need security features of NTFS, FAT is the choice: less write
cycles.
You could consider NTFS if you need more room using compression, but you
don't need it.
And compression asks for a faster processor.
Don't forget to use EWF to protect your CF.

I second that...

EWF (RAM-REG) or FBWF should be used to protect the CF card. Even the the
write filter is protecting the drive, with NTFS the filters don't protect
everything; i.e. meta data section. This is why FAT/FAT32 is much better in
this situation.

Also, look for CF cards that are ID'd as fixed and have DMA plus
wearleveling support. Most off the shelf CF cards are ID'd as removable and
support only port IO mode. I have a few devices listed here:

Hi all,

Thanks for the help.
I was almost about to finalise on FAT32 with feedback from you. I found from
the following link that there are lots of problems for windows NT and XP
systems on FAT32 and FAT16 suits better.

but somehow couldn't make out properly exact reason why FAT16 is better for
XP than FAT32.

Note: I am running XPe on Removable CF.
