NTFRS error

P

Peter Hagen

I'm getting an NTFRS error event ID 13552 with an FRS status code of:
FrsErrorMismatchedJournalid.

We've got 4 domain controllers and only one is having this problem. another
is getting NTFRS Eventid 13508. These two are separated by a firewall, but
the errors just started recurring lately. (I'd done some work on the
firewall months ago to ensure that the replication could go through, but
this is not the same error status code from previous problems

I haven't found any info in the KB regarding the error:
FrsErrorMismatchedJournalid.

TIA,
Peter

It sounds like no changes have been made to the DC in question. If this is
the case, would you check the free disk space on the DC that is getting the
FrsErrorMismatchedJournalid error code in its 13552 event? Sometimes that
event and error code combination can result due to a low disk space problem.

If you are or were running low on disk space, make sure that problem is
resolved. Once the disk space issue is dealt with, you can perform a
non-authoritative restore (also known as a "D2") to get FRS replicating
again on that machine.

For the process of performing a D2, you can download the FRS Monitoring Help
File. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/frs. Follow the FRS Troubleshooting
and Monitoring link, then click on FRS Monitoring Help File. Save the
ultrasound.chm file and open it. Once it's open, do a search for
"Performing a Nonauthoritative Restore" and you should find the topic.

Note it's important to first determine the cause of the problem before
performing a D2. Unless the original problem is understood and resolved, it
will likely recur.

Please post FRS related questions to microsoft.public.windows.server.dfs_frs
and prefix the subject line with "FRS:" to make it easier to spot. Note
that FRS is used to replicate SYSVOL on domain controllers and DFS root and
link targets.
