NTDS settings - <automatically generated>

D

Dean

I was just wondering why some of my server connections
list the servername and some say <automatically
generated>. There are 2 "Corporate DC's" that are listed,
but when looking at the other 5 remote locations, one
particular location is always listed. For example, if
looking at remote site A,B,C,or D, you always see DC1,DC2,
and remote site E (listed as <automatically generated>.
If you look at site E, you see both DC's and 4-
<automatically generated> iterations for each of the other
4 remote sites. Shouldn't each remote location only point
to the 2 DC's. What do I need to do here?

Replication links that show as automatically generated were created by the
KCC. Any replication links that have a name are manually created by an
administrator. The KCC automatically runs every 15 mins and determines
which DCs need to be replication partners. It is not necessary for each DC
to have a link to every other DC because replication is transitive.
