Windows 2000 and Windows XP
1. Start the computer from the Windows 2000 or Windows XP CD-ROM.
2. Select R at the Welcome to Setup screen.

3. Select Manual Repair.

4. Select only Startup Environment.

Hi,

Boot the CD, load the Recovery Console, copy ntdetect.com from the I386
folder to the root of the system drive.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307654

copy X:\I386\ntdetect.com C:\

Then exit the Recovery Console, remove the CD and reboot.
