Last night I downloaded ntbackup from onecomputerguy web site and when I
tried to install I received this:

A network error occuerd while attempting to read from the file
c:\documents and settings\Roy\my documents\ntbackup[2].msi

Fully updated WinXP Home SP2. No virus or malware.

Please advise.

Thank You for your time and attention.

I pulled this from the NTbackup on my XP home CD

NTBackup Backup/Restore and ASR release notes
Backup/Restore
ASR

1. ASR is not supported on home edition.

IF you install NtBackup from the CD to the Home Edition, ASR functionality
will appear to work fine duringthe backup session. Since the setup does not
support ASR in the home edition, there is no way to initiatethe ASR restore
in case of a disaster. If you need to restore from this session, install
Windows XP manually
and then restore from the ASR media.

2. Backup to CDRW

If you decide to backup to a CDRW, you cannot target that device directly.
You must create a backup set of
650MB or less and backup to a file. After the file is complete, copy the
file to the CDRW.

Please refer to the readme for XP home edition for additional notes.

Try downloading the application again from here:

Direct file download of ntbackup.msi

Good luck

"A network error occuerd while attempting to read from the file
c:\docume.....msi"

Are you connected to a network? Why would youget a net error?
If you have your Windows XP CD then get the file from
D:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP\Ntbackup.msi, install from CD or copy to folder.

A proper backup solution would be much better, nt backup is ok but you
really have to know exactly what you are doing and even then it can
end in tears cos you forgot one obscure check box.

Norton Ghost

http://www.symantecstore.com/

Acronis True Image

http://www.acronis.com/

Acronis is much better IMO does not need .NET installed and cheaper.

Do you want a proper backup solution or merely a false sense of
security?
