NT BDC in Native Mode?

Hello,

Do to the fact that we cannot retire an NT BDC due to software running on
it, I was wondering what negative effects might occur if we leave this BDC
in place, but move to Native 2003 mode on our domain? All our workstations
are Win 2000/XP, so none will be authenticating from this BDC.

Will this BDC continue to hammer the 2003 DCs with traffic looking to
replicate?
Will this generate tons of errors in the log file?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Max

I would not suggest doing this. The NT 4.0 BDC will not replicate with the
Win 2k DCs. If a user changes their password, that change will not replicate
to the NT 4.0 BDC. It will retain the old password. You users will have to
log in to the domain using one password then when accessing this server they
will need another.

Well this server is just being used for RightFax, and I don't believe it
uses domain credentials, so in that case the password issue would be
irrelevent. But what about traffic between the two. The thing I'm worried
about is the BDC constanly hitting the 2K DC for updates, almost like a DOS
attack.

That won't happen. If I remember correctly the BDC does not request updates,
they get sent to them. In native mode the updates will not be sent.
