Now that I have come this far with the problem I have been having all day. I
have reset all of my accounts in xp home so that they don't use or need
passwords - yeah! Now, I restarted my laptop and it came on with a logon
screen with the user name - Administrator and a blank password box. I didn't
make an administrator account. How do I get around that?

Also, I understand I am supposed to use Outlook to post here? I have
Outlook not Outlook Express and I am not sure I understand how I am to
suscribe to this newsgroup. A little help would be wonderful.

First - if you have Windows XP and you did not manually uninstall (or tell
it not to install when you setup) - you have Outlook Express. However, you
can use any Newsreader you want.

.. Launch Outlook Express, which is installed with Windows XP. You may be
asked if you want to make Outlook Express your default e-mail program. If
you haven't installed Windows XP, you can download Outlook Express from the
Microsoft Internet Explorer Downloads page. (You will need to download and
install Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1.)
.. On the Tools menu in Outlook Express, click Accounts.
.. In the Internet Account dialog box, click the Add button, and then click
News.
.. In the Internet Connection Wizard that appears, type your name in the
Display name field, and then click Next. Type your e-mail address in the
e-mail address field, and then click Next.
.. Type "msnews.microsoft.com" in the News (NNTP) Server field.
.. Click Next. Click Finish, and then click Close.
.. When asked, "Would you like to download newsgroups from the news server
you added?" click Yes.
.. In the Newsgroup Subscriptions dialog box, type
"microsoft.public.windows.smartdisplay" to display all Smart Display
newsgroups. Click the newsgroups you're interested in, then click Subscribe,
and you're ready to go!

If you have a newsreader other than Outlook Express installed, please follow
the instructions for your product to access the newsgroups.

To launch Outlook Express, go
Start / Programs / and look for OE

Regarding the Admin password, I remember in the past that just hitting enter
will get you through if there is no password set...

To disable logon prompt

Go to Start > Run and type

control userpasswords2

then uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".

No, you are not *supposed* to do it any way at all. You can do it
whatever way you prefer.

You are posting using the web interface, which is the slowest,
clunkiest, most error-prone method there is. My recommendation
(just a recommendation) is to use a newsreader instead.

Outlook, as you may or may not know, doesn't do newsgroups. If
you want to use Microsoft's newsreader, you have to use Outlook
Express, not Outlook. You can get to Outlook Express throgh
Outlook, and it will tell you that you are running "Microsoft
Outlook Newsreader," but it's really just Outlook Express,
running in newsonly mode.

No, you have both. Outlook Express is part of Internet Explorer,
which is a component of Windows.

Or use some other newsreader. Although I personally like Outlook
Express, there are lots of other newsreaders, several of which
are freeware, and many people prefer other choices. The important
thing is to avoid the web interface you've been using.
