... now my 3d sucks? Radeon Pro 9700

So I had this:

Pentium 4 2.8ghz 533 FSB on a Soyo 845PE Lite mobo, 1gig of PC2700 Kingston
memory ... and the 9700 Pro. My FPS in the few games I play was always up
at 100, even with top settings ...

I upgraded to this:

Pentium 4 3.0ghz 800 FSB on a Soyo 865PE Dragon 2 Plus mobo, 1 gig of
PC3200 Kingston memory ... and the same 9700 Pro. I did not reload my XP,
but now when I try to play my 3d games my FPS (when moving around) drops
down to 15-25fps ... any ideas?

Reinstall XP, more than likely a conflict with the previous
mobo drivers.

Try the repair option at the Windows XP installation first. This should
install all the drivers and the OS fresh, but keep your applications intact.

Hi,

there is a guide here that tells you what you need to do if you swap your
system about and you want to keep your original Windows installation. . .

I didn't test this out myself yet. .

Did you install updated chipset drivers for your new board?

My thoughts exactly install the Motherboard Chipset drivers and then directX
in that order. always check to see if dx acceleration is enabled for 3D
(Run>dxdiag>Enter>display tab>all three acceleration features should be
enabled) this can be caused by no chipset drivers. This I ca attest to
myself. Also as a rule keep the OS on a separate partition or Hard drive
this way if you need to reinstall you don't loss all your important data
with out doing a backup.

You can also get a utilty called "jv16 Powertools" that has an option
to reset hardware which makes windows redetect the hardware config of
your PC.

You should have re-installed XP, or at least installed the chipset
drivers for the 865. Your previous chipset was an 845, you now have
an 865. I would re-install. As a general rule, when changing out the
motherboard, I would re-install the O.S.

@drian.

I agree 100%. About 3 1/2 years ago or so, I tried keeping the same
installation of Windows when I did an upgrade, but it was flaky. Upon
formatting the hard drive and re-installing everything fresh with all new
drivers, things were much improved. Yes, I was using Windows 98 at that
time, but I still consider it standard practice now to do a complete fresh
re-install of my operating systems following a major upgrade.

Unfortunately, jv16 Power Tools has now gone commercial, although you can
get a free trial version. I'm sure that if you do a google, though, you
should be able to find older free versions, though. The last freeware
version was 1.3.

Sorry to stray off topic but would you really see a dramatic difference in
performance from your old machine to the new one? I can see how if you're
coming from a 1.8Ghz CPU or something similar but from 2.8 to 3.0? Does the
800FSB really make that much of a difference?

My guess,
Operating system problem, Chipset difference. OS can not change itself
to work.
Soyo 845PE
vs.
Soyo 865PE
Reinstall Windows
