Notification of unread email but none there

My sign on screen (Windows XP Home) tells me I have an
unread email but there is none present. I use outlook
for my main isp email account and also have msn
messenger/hotmail. What gives and how do I get rid of
the annoying message?
 
This is notification of Outlook Express not Microsoft Office Outlook. Make
sure there are no unread message in Outlook Express or delete the account in
Outlook Express.
