VIA Technologies, Inc system model VT8363. Bios version Award 6.0 PG AMD 1335 MHG Athlon(tm) processor 384MB Ram Hard drive capacity 19.40 GB OS MS 98 > MS 98SE just purchased Windows XP upgrade 5/25/04. PROBLEMS!!!
First installation - XP would not recognise anything already installed programs on C drive. Tried reinstalling but only complicated matters. Registered XP online first time. Expaserated, I reformatted C drive and clean install Windows 98, Windows XP and all programs and device drivers. Registered XP online again. Problem with Device driver - don't know which. Problem window gave directions and I tried removing a system file that I thought it was refering to but that only made it impossible to start Windows at all. Formatted C drive again - in process now and will have to register XP on line once more. This time I've unhooked scanner, webcam and printer while installing. I put off upgrading because I was afraid that I would have to upgrade all programs and equipment. Is this a bad installation CD or is this normal with XP? I have NEVER had this kind of problem with Windows before

You can do a clean install of XP with your upgrade disk. You don't have to
reinstall Windows 98 and then upgrade to XP. Always unplug your peripheral
equipment, except for the mouse and keyboard, when formatting and
reinstalling. Your hardware must be compatible with XP. If it is not, you
will most assuredly run into the kind of problems you describe here.
