Nothing appears in "Network Connections"

Although I am connected to the internet, when I go into the Control Panel and
click network connections nothing shows. Is this a problem with Windows XP
or do I have a hardware problem?

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type: SFC /SCANNOW

My best guess is that your ISP has supplied you with specilised
dialing software that makes your internet conection work with out it
been registared in winodws. Im guessing they did that so rouge dilers
canot dial premiume rate ISP’s.

Rule 1: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But if you insist,

from file menu, choose Network Setup Wizzard. Walk thru it to create a new
connection, even if you never intend to use that connection. It should
restore things. Note it will alter some fairly "deep" system things, like
installing "default" file sharing and network client layers, which you may
not really need.
