We need a bit more information than thatWhat type of file was it
you were trying to read? Did you get it in email, or some other way?
When you say it was "garbled", what exactly do you mean? Full of funny
symbols and shapes, or with long codes between < and >, or. . . ?
Do you know what program the person who sent the file to you used to
create it?
Post back with as many details as you can and we'll be glad to try to
help. Happy New Year!
It comes out with funny symbols and shapes. This happens when I try and
retrieve a bill from my electric company. It only opens in notepaid, and
gives no option to open in adobe reader. in other emails, notepad won't
open

Hi Karen,
Sounds like the type of file you're trying to open has the extension set
to open in Notepad, which won't give you the correct results. My guess
is that the file is a PDF. Try installing Adobe Reader and then try again.

Or if you already have it installed, go to Add/Remove programs in
Control Panel, click on Adobe Reader and see if there is a Change
button. If so, click it and select Repair when prompted.

Please provide specific information about your problem. What type of files
are you trying to read with (presumably) Notepad?

This isn't the first time this guy has posted with a date more than a
month in the future. According to this guy's signature he is an MS
MVP...makes me wonder about Microsoft's qualifications for the MVP
title.

Maybe abuse mail to his ISP and hope they pull the plug, until he gets the
message.
