I'm trying to replace Notepad with Notepad++, but everytime I try to delete
one of Window's notepad.exe files it won't let me. I tried editing the
permissions on the security tab, but it won't let me do that either.

In \Windows, right click on notepad.exe/Properties/Security Tab/Advanced
Button/Owner Tab/Edit Button.
Take ownership ("Change owner to:") of the file.
OK/OK.
Back on the Security Tab, <Edit> the permissions to give yourself full
control.
OK.
Right click notepad.exe (again) and rename it to something like
'notepad.OLDexe'--this is strictly for backup purposes if something goes
wrong.
You should now be able to copy the Notepad+ 'notepad.exe' to that location.

Repeat the above with every original notepad.exe on your system.
After that, notepad+ will be your default.

Why delete the file? Have you tried changing the file association so text
files default to Notepad++?

Tim
