Notepad Problem

Hi,

For some reason when I try to open notepad from an icon on my desktop or under the accessories file it won't open.

It opens and works fine when I type NOTEPAD in start-run. But I don't understand why it doesn't when I click on the icon on start-accessories, or the icon on my desktop.

More than likely the ICON at accessories is corrupt. Delete the ICON and
create a new one. You can right click the ICON select properties and look for
its target.

When I right clicked properties by target it says:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ACTMOVIE.EXE

Is that normal? thanks

Like he said, DELETE the icon. Don't click "properties," just delete it.

Those are shortcuts to the Notepad.exe, which expect it to be in the
C:\Windows folder. It may have got deleted, leaving only the copy in
C:\Windows\system32 (for some reason it is held in both folders) where
the Start - Run will pick it up, but the shortcuts will not.

If that has happened, copy the one from System32 into the level above,
as C:\Windows\notepad.exe

PS - it may have got deleted from Windows by a virus, which replaced it,
and not restored when the virus got cleaned up
