hi

I'm attemping to use "NotePad" and keep getting 2 different dialog boxes that read
When I go to Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->NotePad I keep gettin
"This is not a user program"
When I attempt to read a ReadMe file it comes up with
"Windows cannot find NotePad.exe.
"This program is need to read text documents"
Gives me a C:\ Promt that reads;
"Type in the executable file to be used instead

any clue

I'm not finding the correct spot in Knowledge Base if it's in there

thanx

Did you check path C:\WINDOWS\system32 to see if Notepad is there; or otherwise, search your system for it?

Hi,

Notepad.exe should exist in the \Windows directory. If it is not there,
expand a new copy. Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file" (general tab)

File to expand: notepad.exe
From: X:\I386
To: %windir%

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. Reboot when finished.
