Notepad document problem

Hi, after removing the malware XEmacs (which messed up the file associations
for TXT files), I have restored notepad as the default app for text files.
Now even with "Hide extensions for known files types" and notepad set as
default app in file types in folder views, notepad document icons show the
..txt extension.

If anyone knows a registry hack to return things back to normal that would
be very helpful.

Thanks
Jon

This is no good idea. When hiding known extensions (eg. *.exe) you'll
never know what file type you are *really* going to doubleclick. Your
next infection will be just a matter of days.

No english menu around, anyway: Explorer > Tools > Folder Options >
File Types > TXT > Advanced > Always show extension > untick.

Come on, hiding the extension is the one thing that if I ruled the world,
I'd not allow on any computer. No wonder you get malware if you cannot tell
your jpgs from your exes!
