Prior to windows 2000 I was able to create a shortcut on
my desktop to notepad to open in a specific directory. In
windows 2000 it defaults to opening in the last directory
view by and notepad session. This causes me to constantly
change directories when working in two sessions with files
stored on different logical drives. Is there any setting
that can make each notepad session point to a default
directory.

Sure, just go into the properties of the shortcut and change the "Start In"
value to the directory you'd like the notepad session to start in. Does
this not work?
