Add/Remove Programs control panel applet won't open

I can't open my Add/Remove Programs control panel applet.

Whenever I try, it pops open Notepad and Notepad gives me
an "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax
is incorrect" error. Running "control appwiz.apl" gives me
the same symptom.

I'm using Windows 2000 Professional, SP4

Anyone have any ideas on why I might be getting this or
some things I might try in an attempt to track down and
fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I am glad to see I am not the only one with that
problem )

Installed SP4 yesterday, and can't longer launch the
Add/Remove panel neither.

Hope some help will be provided.

Regards,
Laurent.

It's supposed to be "appwiz.cpl", not "appwiz.apl".

You could also start a Command Prompt, then type
this command:

regsvr32 appwiz.cpl

Does not have any effect here.
I don't have any error message, I must admit.

The Add/Remove panel just will not show.
Thus dubble-click onto the Add/Remove icon in the
Control Panel has no effect.

Any ideas what the reason can be?
OS: Win2000 Prof. SP4

Kind regards,
Laurent.
