Not sure where to post this...

I had a Lenovo laptop that allowed me to turn off the display with a
keyboard command (fn+f4). My new HP laptop doesn't appear to have this
function. HP tech support doesn't appear to grasp the simple concept of
what I wish to do which is to toggle the display on/off using a keyboard
command or shortcut key.

Is there way to do this through the OS or perhaps a powertoy?

My lenovo tablet PC uses fn+f7 for switching the display output. The
new HP laptops I support use Fn+f4. Some computers can only access this
switching the display output with a shift+<some key> combination. I'm
sure your laptop has a function for this, you just need to play around
with it until you figure it out. Close and save everything before
pressing random key combinations.

I hadn't thought that through. Again... I was just looking for an easy
ON/Off way to control the laptop display.

Sorry, misunderstood what you were asking about. Although it occurs to
me that you are effectively turning off the laptop screen (or the
equivalent) if you redirect the output away from that screen. The only
other option I can think of is use a blank screensaver and use the
keyboard key combo to enable the screensaver.

Right Click Desktop - Graphic Properties - look there for HotKeys

Also Graphic Options - Enable Hotkeys

Also check control panel for your Graphics Controls
