I can't seem to send emails. I click send, they go through the usual in the
outbox, and seem to send. They show as sent in the Sent Box, but no one is
getting them. I do seem to be able to receive mail. I get no error messages.
I have removed my account and with the ISP tech reset it up. HELP!

If you send a message to yourself, do you get it?

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving,
and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting
changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your
up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For
more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the
program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the
option arises.

Also, I have Norton 360. I turned off email scaning and it didn't make any
difference.

No, I tried twice and didn't get either.

Check at your server's Webmail site and see if the test message shows
there. If not, e-mail scanning still has its hooks on your messages.

Remove Norton and then run this tool.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Now do a custom install and opt out of e-mail scanning when the choice
arrives.

I am having the very same problem today - it could have started yesterday,
not sure but have been getting very little " response" to things I have
written to others.

Did you try sending a test message to yourself, and did it arrive in your Inbox?
Any error message?
Does the message stay in the Outbox or does it go into the Sent Items folder?
Which antivirus are you running? Some of them cause problems with
Windows Mail over time.

GOing to remove the Norton and reinstall tomorrow. Tired of it today. I'll
let you know if it works. Also think I'll download, Windows Live Mail

If you're going for a complete makeover, I would leave Norton off the
machine, period. (Still use the removal tool).

Try an AV program that is just as good, if not better, and works well with
WLMail.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe

Do a custom installation and opt out of e-mail scanning.

Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident
Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange.

Microsoft Security Essentials:
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

(No e-mail scanning to worry about)

Turning it off is not the same thing that Bruce Hagen instructed. Bruce
Hagen said "Remove Norton". That is not the same thing as disabling
scanning. When you remove Norton, be sure to include the extra step that
Bruce Hagen specifies; that is, "Download and run the Norton Removal Tool".
Then re-install as specified. Until you do that, the experts will likely
decline to help you any further.

Yes, did try sending emails to myself and it would go to my server's webmail
but not to me. I have McAfee security system but downloaded if from online
so how would I reinstall if I uninstall to check if that is the problem?

Actually after checking, the "test" emails from this computer are NOT go to
webmail. It only gets to webmail if I send a test from our home computer.
This is my business laptop.

I am having this same problem. Called Microsoft, & they were useless. My
emails appear to send, no error message, & they show up in my server's
webmail but not in my Windows Mail. Regular messages go, but not larger
messages with photos. If you find a solution, please share it - this is
making me crazy!!

McAfee antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Sometimes it takes a while before symptoms start showing up.
First of all, turn off email scanning in McAfee, although that is seldom sufficient.
Next, delete that email account (because it has been corrupted by McAfee),
restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

If the problem continues, the only way you can prove or disprove that
McAfee is the culprit is to uninstall it, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
If you decide to replace McAfee, we can recommend a free antivirus
program which is more compatible with Windows Mail:

Instead of switching to a different antivirus, another option is to upgrade
to Windows Live Mail (WLM), which is more resistant to the adverse effects
of overly intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

Even with WLM, you must disable email scanning in the antivirus,
for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Please answer the same questions I asked Kmenders, specifically:
Which antivirus are you running?

Gary, I am running AVG. Problem persists. I send photos all the time, so
I'd love to have it fixed ASAP. Thank you!!

<QP>
Regular messages go, but not larger messages with photos.
</QP

When you check the Webmail, are the pictures there, or just text?

Remove AVG and reboot. Reinstall AVG and choose Custom Mode. Uncheck
E-mail Scanning when you see that option.

Also, what ISP/Mail Server do you use?

See Bruce's response.
Although AVG's mail checking supposedly can be turned off, in fact
it continues to interfere with mail messages, and the only fix is the
uninstall followed by a custom reinstall where you must unselect the
mail module installation.

Thank you! I will try that. I can't remember now, but I'm pretty sure
everything was there in Webmail. I use roadrunner.
