Most of the time when I go to close a window, a box comes up and says
something which I can't remember. But I have a choice to "end now" or cancel.
Selecting "end now" takes forever and finally closes the window. What could
be the problem? I used to have ME and when I would close a window, it would
close right away. Also on ME when I would select control, alternate, delete I
could end the program right away and with XP I get the task manager which is
no help as far as I am concerned. Does any of this make sense to anybody and
can anybody make any suggestions as to what I can do to correct this problem?
Thanks.

Without knowing what that box says there's little we can do to help you.
However the CTRL + ALT + DEL is MUCH more powerful in XP than in 9x/ME. If
you have the task manager open (instead of the shutdown/reboot options) with
that then you can click on the processes tab and get a load of information
as to what is running.

The reason for the message box is that the program is hung somehow or other.
The reason the program closed so quickly on ME (as it does on XP when it
isn't hung) is that the program is not hung.
There are many reasons for getting a program hung.

Thanks, Jim.
But what are some of the reasons for a program getting hung up?
Can you give me a few and maybe an idea what I can do to fix it?
