Not receiving e-mail

Partyman

I use Windows Mail (not Live mail). Until 2 weeks ago, had no problems but
now Windows Mail will not receve any e-mail apart from a couple of spam ones
all else is blocked. It will send e-mail no problem still. I can only receive
e-mail if I log in and go via my ISP Tiscali home page so, I know that there
are around 50 e-mails a day being sent to me but Windows Mail doesn't
download them or produce any error codes to say their is a fault. To try and
resolve this, I have turned off my Norton e-mail scanner and even uninstalled
it completely and also turned off windows defender and windows firewall - but
it all made no difference. Windows Mail just can't seem to see my e-mails.
This all started when I was on holiday abroad 2 weeks ago when I was using a
WiFi connection different to my usual Tiscali wireless used at home. Please
can anyone suggest why Windows Mail will no longer download my e-mails? Thank
you.

Never turn off Windows Defender or Windows Firewall except for a very
brief test. Those two programs are fully compatible with Windows Mail.

What happens when you click on Send/Receive? Does it go through the
motions of contacting the mail server? Afterwards does it say "No new
messages"? What happens when you send an email to yourself, does it
arrive in your Inbox? If you receive spam emails it proves that WM is
working. Check the Properties of the account to make sure it still has
the correct email address/username/password and server name.

Also any Norton uninstall should be followed up by using their removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

One thing you should try as a possible quick fix is to delete that
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

Gary, thanks for this info. I have done everything you mention but it has
made no difference. I have deleted the mail account and reinstalled it,
removed Norton 360 again and this time used the uninstaller program. When I
send and receive e-mails, they go out fine but none are received. The system
goes through the normal cycle but no messages are received, not even getting
Spam now. I have sent several test e-mails to myself but they don't arrive
back to me in Windows Mail. I can log into Tiscali mail page to download
e-mail also I can log on via another PC and download via Outlook Express no
problems. The Windows Mail was fine until 2 weeks ago. I am receiving no
error codes so there is nothing to indicate what is wrong. Thanks again,
Partyman.

The only other suggestion I have at this point is to install Windows Live Mail:
http://download.live.com/wlmail
If nothing else, it will give you another data point, letting you know if the
problem is with your computer or with your Windows Mail program.

Thanks again for your suggestions. I have registered for Windows Live Mail.
Before I did so, this evening my old Windows Mail account received 2 e-mails
(not junk) but no more have arrived since. 30 mins ago, I sent 4 test e-mails
to myself using Live Mail. The first one has arrived back to me on Live Mail
but not the other 3 !!. Meanwhile, Tiscali mail via their web site is working
fine and receives all mails. What else can you suggest please? Regards,
Partyman.

Frankly, I'm out of ideas. I've never known an email program to work
intermittently without giving an error message.

You can continue to run both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail
if you want; however, by default WM deletes messages from the server
after downloading, so any emails downloaded in WM will not be available
for download in Windows Live Mail. To change that default in WM:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select your mail account, Properties, Advanced,
select "Leave a copy of messages on server."

Before I did so, this evening my old Windows Mail account received 2 e-mails
(not junk) but no more have arrived since. 45 mins ago, I sent 4 test e-mails
to myself using Live Mail. The first one arrived back to me on Live Mail
quickly and the other 3 about 30 mins later for some reason. I would rather
continue with Windows Mail rather than Live as Mail has all my drafts,
achives and contacts stored there. What else can you suggest please to get
Windows Mail working as it should? Regards, Partyman

Sorry, I don't have any other suggestions.
You should be able to import everything from Windows Mail into Windows
Live Mail. If you need help with that, ask in the Windows Live Mail
newsgroup:

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...dg=microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
or via your news reader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Incidentally, delays in receiving mail are not the fault of your email program,
but are due to issues at the server level.

Either he did not uninstall Norton 360 properly and completely or he has another
Security program also installed and running

The OP mentioned he uninstalled Norton 360 but it made no difference.
