Not receiving attachments in windows mail

I'm having a problem receiving attachments on some of my emails. Some come
through just fine while others just vanish. I've run into this problem
several times sending txt or pdf files from work to my home computer. I'm
using Avast AV and have disabled the email scanner as I had read somewhere
that it may be the culpret. No luck. My ISP is the same at work and at home.
I am able to send email with attachments out and back to myself. I can even
send them to others. Just having problems receiving them from other
locations. ??? Please help. Thanks.

Does your work computer use Outlook?
Outlook has a proprietary "RTF" format for attachments that is not
readable by non-Outlook email programs.

Yes I use outlook on that computer. I will try using my web based email
tomorrow and post the outcome. Thanks.
