Not exactly freeware related but: Software for Windows 3.1?

Chaos Master

Hello people.

Sorry if this is the wrong newsgroup but there isn't Win 3.1/3.11 newsgroup.

I have got, for a few dollars, an old PC (some slow 486 with 8MB RAM and 340MB
hard drive) - I thought about fixing it and making a "test machine". I booted
it, and it has Windows 3.11 (for Workgroups)!

I would like to have some fun with it. Question:

- Where can Windows 3.1 software, or general abandonware (*not games*) be
found? Currently I need mainly TCP/IP and modem programs (I hooked an old
28.8k modem)

I already have found Internet software:

Netscape for Win 3.1 at ftp://ftp.sillydog.org and NCSA Mosaic browser at
ftp://ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu .

You could take a look at the Win 3.xx section of my site 'Links to
Freeware'. Maybe you can find some links there that can be of any need
for you.

With kind regards,

For connecting to the net you should try IE 3.0 15-bit, it comes with it's
own "dial-up networking", something very similar to the real thing

Time to waste huh ?? Or a nostalgia trip ??

Wanna buy my old 'Sinclair Spectrum',circa 1982, 64k Ram, save to
cassette tape ??

Or my Casio IBM compatible, circa 1985, a real 256k RAM, twin 360k floppy
drives, no HD .. and wait for it ...... a 16 color CGA monitor .... very
expensive in 1985. From memory it was around $1000.00 to go from
monocolor to 16 color. Back when 9 pin dot matrix printers were thousand
bucks.

Both still work too ...... about once a year I go on a nostalgia trip too
....... doesn't last long though. :(

No, thanks.

I still remember my old TK-2000 computer (brazilian Apple II clone), ~1985,
64kb RAM - I threw it on the trash, hooked to my old TV (~1983).

The graphics functions were cool. Not fun: loading a tape program for minutes,
just to have it fail and enter 'debugger' mode. At least, no blue screens or
kernel panics.

Do a google search for

with the quotes, if you need more help with tcp/ip and modem issues.

Yeah, good days. Even with a TV, the image was quite good. Audio generated via
the TV speaker - no need for external speakers. I remember writing programs
that played music, with (PLAY, SOUND) statements in BASIC.

sadly, the power supply (old and heavy power supply, with a big transformer
inside) was RIP and so the entire system was thrown on the trash.
