Not enough server storage is available to process this command

I have an XP box networked to a W2K box . They both see and share all
resources perfectly. I added an external hard drive via USB to the XP box
and made the correct share settings. The W2K box can see it, but not access
it's content. I get the following error message:

(drive path name) is not available.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

I have downloaded and installed w2K sp4...Still no change.

I have then abandoned w2k and replaced it with XP pro.

So now I have xp pro on both machines. They share broad band connection via
a linksys router. File sharing and printer sharing is all working properly.

I still get the same error message when I go to access this drive.

Any help with this?

Thank you ..worked great.

After reboot (this was my first reboot after just getting network
functioning), I could not get the two boxes to show up in "View Workgroup
Computers" . After shutting off Norton Internet Security (which I believe
has some issues, The boxes gradually became visible after numerous attempts
to "View Workgroups Computers". Is this normal? Is there something I need to
do to auto connect the network after reboot?

Also I have a linksys wireless access point router, which they claim has a
built in firewall. What should I be using for a firewall: the router, Norton
Internet Security, XP buildin Protection, other or any combination of the
above??

Thanks again
Greg

'View Workgroup Computers' is a window onto the 'Browse List'.
The browse list takes time to get built up, this is normal.
( The browsing system is a bit flakey at the best of times. )

Browsing is not necessary for the network to function.

You can access network resources either by mapping a network drive letter:
either use windows explorer | Tools | Map network drive; -or-
command prompt | net use z: \\server-name\share-name

Or by UNC pathname:
Start | Run | \\server-name -or-
Start | Run | \\server-name\share-name

These will work even if the browse list is broken or incomplete.

As far as firewalls are concerned, the router will provide good inbound
firewalling, but will give no egress filtering. You should not use the XP
firewall in your case, it is intended for a direct Internet connection, not
a LAN connection where it will block f+p sharing. A 3-rd party firewall
like Norton can be configured to permit f+p sharing between the local
machines, but block connections to/from the Internet. If the Norton
firewall is killing LAN connectivity, that is a configuration issue with
your Norton Firewall. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on configuring
the Norton firewall, since I've never used it.

Hooray for you, Ron!!

I had exactly the same problem as Gregory, and your
suggestion fixed it perfectly! And yes, I am running
Norton AV :). My stack variable had been changed from 15
to 11, and setting it back fixed things.

A very perplexing error, since with it you can still "see"
the drives of the affected computer (server) from all over
the network, but you can't access any files on these
drives. The computer itself cannot even see its OWN
drives if they are defined as "Network Places"!

Thanks VERY much for your clear, concise instructions and
invaluable help. Pls come to Boston to collect a beer and
a lobster when you have a chance...!
