Not being able to connect to internet with my laptop

My laptop has been acting weird. I have been trying to connect to the
internet but it never does it. It acts as if it's going to work but it
doesn't. It says unplugged cable. I got no cables attach to it, i want
to do it with my wireless card. The first time i tried get on, i was
right underneath the source and it just wouldnt do it. I cant connect.
It acknowledges that there is a wireless card and it's doesnt show any
thing wrong with it, but it won't connect. Please help... I dont know
how it works!!
