Not automatically receiving e-mails in Outlook 2003

I've just set up Outlook 2003 on my system and have
tagged it to automatically alert me to new e-mails. It
currently is not doing so. Also, I have to hit the
send/receive button for my e-mails to show up in my in-
box. Any suggestions so that my received e-mails
automatically go into my inbox?
 
Select CTRL + Alt + S. Is your send receive group configured to collect
mail every "X" minutes? (option is near the bottom)
